JAMMU, MARCH 27: The 2nd UT Level Sport Climbing Championship organized by the Mountaineering Association of J&K ended here today at Sprawling Buds ICSE School Bantalab.
Shilpa Charak – an international climber – took the women’s title of the 2nd J&K UT Sport Climbing Championship while Mrityunjay Sharma bagged the men’s title. Shubam Sharma from Jammu District and Yawar Ahmad from Pulwama secured 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
In the juniors, Sapna Ranjan, Gourav Bhagat, both from Jammu District, and Maroof Nazir from Budgam won the gold, silver and bronze medals, while in the juniors, Zennie Bhagat from Kishtwar wowed the crowd with her top speed down the 40ft high fiberglass wall in 2 minutes and 26 seconds and won the gold medal. The silver and bronze medals went to Uzmah Altaf from Budgam and Aradhna Manhas from Jammu.
In all, about 200 climbers from different counties took part in the championship, which was sponsored by the J&K Sports Council.
The Secretary General of the Association, Shawetica Khajuria, was the President of the Jury, which was well supported by the technical staff and logistics of the IMF North Zone Committee, New Delhi.
At the retirement ceremony, Ashwani Sharma, former MLA, was the main guest. Along with Rahul Sharma, he presented the winners with medals and memorabilia to all participating teams and technical officials. The main guest recognized the climbers’ performance during the competition and urged them to prepare for the next national and international competitions including the 2024 Olympic Games.
Celebrities present during the event included Seema Sharma, Principal of the host school, Ram Khajuria, Senior Vice President and other members of the association.
