For the 14th consecutive year, The River 95.3/WZRV held “Camping for Hunger” the week before Thanksgiving to raise food, cash donations and raise awareness of hunger in the northern Shenandoah Valley. All funds and donations go to C-CAP in Front Royal/Warren County. Donations for 2022 exceeded expectations for the year with over £14,000 in food donated and nearly $17,000 in cash.

As demand continues to grow, these amounts will provide significant support to C-CAP’s pantry program. The monetary donations alone correspond to almost 40,000 meals and cover half a year
Value of need, according to C-CAP Executive Director Larry Elliot. On-air personalities Lonnie Hill, Randy Woodward and Scott Bradley along with the station owner
Andrew Shearer and other staff have all slept on the bus this year, broadcasting live from the Royal Plaza shopping center car park in Front Royal all week. During the week-long campout event, The River 95.3 broadcast asked for community support and donations to the Front Royal/Warren County C-CAP pantry. An online donation link directly to C-CAP, a 501-c(3) nonprofit organization, was also provided. The link is still available through C-CAP’s website.

Andrew Shearer, President of Royal Broadcasting, commented: “For 14 years now, this community has proven it supports its own. We are just the channel for the great work that individuals and companies are doing in support of this mission. I’m really honored that we can be a part of it.” Since 2008 food donations have totaled over £190,000 with cash/gift card donations totaling nearly $125,000. Community organization support comes from the Front Royal Police, Warren County Fire & Rescue,
Royal Plaza Mall, CenturyLink and C-CAP. Many local businesses and community groups are holding internal food drives to help raise funds and keep all donations local.

River 95.3/WZRV is committed to serving the community through events, programs and activities with direct participation. For more information, contact the station: 540-635-4121; Email: [email protected] or visit http://theriver953.com/campingforhunger/
