Alexandria’s bass fishing on Lake Le Homme Dieu and Lake Ida to be featured on Out of doors Channel this winter – Alexandria Echo Press

ALEXANDRIA – The Alexandria area and a booming bass fishery will be featured on the Outdoor Channel next winter after Major League Fishing (MLF) brought together 27 professional bass anglers to fish both Lake Le Homme Dieu and Lake Ida in the General Tire Team Series Lucas Oil Fish Qualifying Event presented by B&W Trailer Hitches.

Filmed over six days in the last week of September, the Alexandria event featured nine three-person teams battling for top-three placement and promotion to the General Tire Team Series Championship. The winning team of three of this championship event will win a grand prize of $300,000, while the second and third place teams will take home $60,000 and $30,000 respectively.

The Alexandria area has hosted numerous bass fishing tournaments but this is the first time the MLF has visited the area. MLF events follow a catch, weight and instant release tournament format.

Major League Fishing was formed in 2011. With headquarters in Tulsa, Oklahoma and offices in Benton, Kentucky, the MLF angler roster includes top professionals and more than 30,000 competitors in all 50 states and 13 countries. Major League Fishing produces more than 250 events annually that air on CBS, Discovery Channel, Outdoor Channel, CBS Sports Network, World Fishing Network and on-demand on MyOutdoorTV (MOTV).

“The Alexandria area has long been a destination for fishermen, but that has been somewhat overshadowed by all the families who choose to spend their time here in the heart of Lakeland, enjoying not only the time on the water but the golf courses, the parks and our other great vacation spots,” said Joe Korkowski, executive director of Explore Alexandria, in a press release on the tournament. “Having Major League Fishing anglers put their skills to the test on some of our lakes takes the attention to fishing to a whole new level.

“Living in Minnesota with our four very different seasons, we know the importance of being adaptable. These pros demonstrate how good they are at figuring out all the elements that go into a successful day on the water and showing the average angler what’s possible. Alexandria is a great community for many reasons, including fishing, hunting and other outdoor recreation, but the friendships, collaboration and community spirit are why we say it’s easy to get to but hard to leave.”

The professional anglers at this event don’t know where they will be competing until they arrive at the jetty each morning of the competition. The goal is to create a reality-based TV episode that shows top anglers breaking new and uncharted waters.

The MLF General Tire Team Series Lucas Oil Qualifier will air as six two-hour original episodes on the Outdoor Channel every Saturday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm EDT beginning December 31, 2022. For the full television schedule, visit

The results of the Alexandria stop will not be available before the episodes air.
