Amarillo Sod Poodles journey to Frisco following break up sequence in opposition to Corpus Christi Hooks


The Amarillo Sod Poodles head to take on the Frisco RoughRiders after playing a split series at home against the Corpus Christi Hooks last week.

Though the record hovered around the .500 mark, the Sod Poodles’ offense has continued to climb.

Amarillo outfielder Dominic Canzone burned to the plate last week, going 8-for-17 with three runs home, two doubles, seven RBIs and five runs made. Canzone has hit a home run in six of his last eight games.

Fellow outfielder Jorge Barrosa has been 17-to-33 (.515) since the All-Star break and is currently on a 10-game hit streak.

Meanwhile, first baseman Leandro Cedeno continues to heat up at the plate and now has up to 21 home runs in the season while continuing to lead the team.

Amarillo owns a 47-49 aggregate record and is expected to face Texas Rangers partner Frisco for the second time this season.

Frisco (51-45) heads into the new week after a 4-2 road trip against the Springfield Cardinals.

The Rangers’ top picks currently playing for Frisco are right-handed pitcher Jack Leiter (No. 1), second baseman Justin Foscue (No. 4), right-handed pitcher Owen White (No. 6) and utility Dustin Harris (#7).

Leiter was drafted by Texas from Vanderbilt in the first round (2nd overall) of the 2021 MLB Draft. He has a 3-8 record with a 5.80 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 15 starts this season.

Foscue has a .279 batting average with six home runs, 45 RBI and 32 carries this season. White has a 3-0 record and hit 23 strikeouts in four games at Double-A. Harris has 17 home runs, 66 RBI and 55 runs this season.

Frisco is second in the Texas League South Division while the Sod Poodles are fourth.

Amarillo is 21-24 on the road this season while the RoughRiders are 21-24 at home.
