BLM invitations public to Garnet Hill Recreation Space Administration Plan workshop

ELY, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management Ely District, Bristlecone Field Office invites the public to attend a planning workshop for the Garnet Hill Recreation Area Management Plan. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bristlecone Convention Center, 150 Sixth Street, Ely, Nev.

The field office plans to improve the Garnet Hill Recreation Area and the Egan Crest Trail System, located approximately 10 miles west of Ely. Improvements include upgrading roads, expanding existing trails, adding overnight campgrounds, and building designated motorized and non-motorized trail systems. All facilities and some trails would be ADA accessible. Funding for the capital improvement project was provided by Round 18 of the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act.

“The BLM will also develop a recreation area management plan that will address the management and maintenance of the new recreation area and future visitor use. So we want to engage local governments, key stakeholders and resource users to ensure we are identifying community needs and desired outcomes,” said John Miller, Outdoor Recreation Planner, BLM Bristlecone Field Office.

Miller said the 6:00 p.m. workshop will include a presentation describing the project, an overview of the planning process, and instructions on how the public can participate. A question and answer session follows.
