Boy Scout troop’s tenting trailer stolen in Festus

FESTUS, Mon. – The heart of the Scout Troop 426 was stolen overnight.

“When it came to camping, it was like the heart we got our supplies and things in,” said Connor Mooney, a member of Scout Troop 426. “I honestly couldn’t believe it.”

The theft last month at Elks Lodge in Festus. The troop noticed that their supply tag was missing from the usual spot. Unfortunately on time for the camping season.

“It’s really sad. You couldn’t do anything about COVID last year,” said Teal Dontrich. “Now they’re just starting, getting camping going again, and they have nothing to do with it.”

Following COVID-19 setbacks, the force was ready to return to the forest for the first time in over a year.

“It was pretty tough because we had to make up for last year because we couldn’t camp, but now that we have that crutch in front of us we have to push a little harder,” said Mooney.

But the group is breaking new ground, developing ideas for fundraising campaigns and setting up a GoFundMe page. You raised more than $ 1,400 on Tuesday afternoon.

“We think it’s likely to be around $ 10,000,” said Troop 426 associate scoutmaster Tom Dontrich.

The trailer and supplies can be clearly identified by the logo and troop number on the back. Cameras recorded in the Elks Lodge parking lot do not clearly show the crime.

The group filed a police report, but there is no evidence yet. If you spot this trailer or if you have any information, call the Crystal City Police Department.
