JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – The Jonesboro Board of Directors and Treasury met Tuesday, August 9 to discuss several issues, one of which focused on providing greater protections for city officials.
Members considered a resolution approving the purchase of bulletproof vest systems for the Jonesboro Police Department.
The city would need to upgrade and purchase thirty tactical bulletproof vest systems for the SWAT team at a total cost of $110,507.99.
The committee members brought the resolution to the full council.
The group also considered a resolution to authorize Jonesboro to submit a grant application for the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism’s 2023 Outdoor Recreation Matching Grant.
According to the committee, the city intends to improve Joe Mack Campbell Park by adding a splash guard, with plans for the recreation area already in preparation.
The project would cost a total of $350,000, with the grant covering $175,000 and the city paying the rest.
The resolution was also presented to the full Council by the committee.
