DNR Seeks Enter On State Recreation Plan

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comment on its Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan from SCORP. The DNR says it has spent several months compiling information about the integrated system of state, federal, state and local recreation facilities and is now seeking input. The SCORP is a five-year strategic plan designed to assess ongoing and emerging trends, needs and issues in outdoor recreation and to prioritize the achievement of outdoor recreation goals. It deals with everything from federal grants to government investments to land acquisition. Notable among the plan’s activities was a statewide survey conducted in coordination with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and others to produce the document. The DNR says the public comment period is now up to December 1st. Public input on the draft will be used in the development of the final plan, which will be submitted to the US Department of the Interior’s National Parks Service by December 31.
