The recreation area includes acres of public land with hiking trails, the Pine View Campground, Whitetail Ridge ski area and the Sportsman’s Range. The Pine View Recreation Area offers year-round, four-season activities including camping, hiking, fishing and more.

In 2022, the recreation area celebrated its 50th anniversary and is managed by the Fort McCoy Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.
Fort McCoy was founded in 1909 and is said to be the “Total Force Training Center”. Located in the heart of the upper Midwest, Fort McCoy is the only US Army facility in Wisconsin.
The facility has provided field and training support and facilities to more than 100,000 service members from all services nearly every year since 1984.
