Climbing in Saudi Arabia can be a fun but challenging outdoor activity for families and friends who participate in rocky terrain. However, if you’re looking for less road trips and more of an indoor venue, it’s time to check out Dyno Gym, the first world-class indoor climbing center in the UK. This Dammam gym promises adventurers of all ages the opportunity to climb while building new skills and communities.
Dyno Gym was co-founded by Mohammed Banjari, who introduced the activity in Saudi Arabia after participating in the sport in other countries. “At first I thought climbing was uncompetitive and serious. But once I got in touch with the culture, I realized that it is much more serious and requires critical thinking and teamwork, almost like solving a puzzle with the body, ”he told Arab News.
A key benefit of Dyno Gym is that you don’t have to be an expert to sign up. It’s a fun place for the experts indeed, but there are programs for beginners as well, as well as guides on how to reduce the risk of injury. The gym is also meant to be a community center where families, friends, and even strangers can get together and participate in sports together.
“Personally, over time the gym has become a regular meeting place with a climbing component. So even if I’m too tired to climb I’ll still visit my friends and just hang out with them, and that’s the biggest attraction, “said Banjari.
In fact, climbing is seen as a relatively new sport in Saudi Arabia, having just founded the Saudi Climbing and Hiking Federation (SCHF) in February 2018, the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports.
Despite being a new sport, players like Dyno Gym are meeting the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 program, perhaps a monumental feat after a long climb to introduce the sport to the Saudis.
