Eaton Rapids Out of doors Recreation Heart is working at full capability for the 2021 season

CHARLOTTE, Michigan – If you want to get outside kayaking or canoeing, you’re in luck, as the Eaton Rapids Outdoor Recreation Center is open during the season.

The center opened Memorial Day Weekend and will remain open until Saturday, September 18.

“It was very busy. So Memorial Day weekend was pretty stable. We got pretty strong and then last weekend we were actually sold out for the whole weekend, well on Saturday and Sunday. We recommend reserving in advance, ”said Corey Cagle, Eaton Rapids City Park and Recreation Coordinator.

Get out into the open

The outdoor leisure center offers kayak and canoe rentals for two- or four-hour trips on the Grand River.

If people have their own kayaks or canoes they can bring them, and there is a shuttle service from the dock and back to the outdoor leisure center.

People can usually rent tubes from the center, but this year the center is not renting them because the water level has dropped.

“People are able to hose at their own risk. If you want to bring your own tubing, feel free to float down the river. The bottom of the Grand River is quite rocky in most places. There are some places here that you know will drop to about five or six inches and pipes could burst if they roll over the rocks there, ”Cagle said.
