North American premiere of “Leonardo” at Artpark on August 20th
Artpark & Company presents the return of Plasticiens Volants from Toulouse, France for the North American Premiere of “Leonardo”. The larger-than-life show celebrates one of the greatest inventors of all time: Leonardo da Vinci. Guests will witness oversized, helium-filled, hand-painted inflatable boats depicting Leonardo’s ideas, inventions, and visions float weightlessly above the audience and move through the sky as the sun sets over the Niagara Escarpments.
Thierry Collin from Plasticiens Volants said: “Leonardo wanted to paint the wind. Plasticiens Flounces reinvent the master’s fantasies by shaping the air.”
This special performance will take place on Saturday, August 20th at 8pm. General admission tickets are $20 and are available now from the Artpark Box Office (450 S. Fourth St., Lewiston); and online at ticketmaster.com.
Plasticiens Volants returns to Artpark following the US premieres of 2017’s ‘Big Bang’ and 2019’s ‘Pearl’.
According to a press release: “Everything was connected in the brilliant mind of Leonardo da Vinci – anatomy, mechanics, drawings of intricate patterns, studies of bird flight and even the face of his Mona Lisa. His mastery of a wide range of disciplines reminds us of the infinite possibilities of human understanding and that our minds and imaginations are limitless.”
Plasticiens Volants is a 46-year-old institution and a one-of-a-kind street theater artist with giant, original hand-painted inflatable creations that have been seen by millions of people in more than 23 countries. The troupe has performed at countless international festivals and major events such as the Rio and Sochi Olympics.
Artpark is also hosting a Renaissance-Carnival-style benefit prior to this performance on the Mainstage Theater Terrace. The event includes food from Oliver’s, an open bar, auctions and entry to the ‘Leonardo’ show. Proceeds benefit Artpark’s charitable mission and arts program. To purchase tickets or for more information about this benefit, visit https://www.artpark.net/events/artpark-carnival-2022-1.
Note to visitors: This performance will be held in the Artpark lower parking lot at the South Fourth Street entrance and the area is closed to traffic. Guests are directed to enter the park via the Portage Road entrance to park in the upper lots. After parking, guests can follow the brick road inside the park to the main lot. Shuttles will also be available. Guests may bring a chair or blanket to be used in the designated areas.
