Free tenting supplied in a part of Massive South Fork park

Visitors to the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area can camp for free this week to celebrate the first anniversary of the signing of the Great American Outdoors Act.

The park offers free backcountry camping permits on Wednesdays as well as free camping at Alum Ford Campground. Alum Ford Campground is located in the Kentucky portion of the park, seven miles west of Whitley City.

The Great American Outdoors Act aims to clear a maintenance backlog in national parks, forests, wildlife sanctuaries, recreational areas, and Indian schools, the park said. Big South Fork will receive funding for several projects for its recreational facilities and infrastructure.
