Get Outdoors Week (GO Week) returns for another year on November 12-20

Led by Recreation Aotearoa, GO Week is a national campaign encouraging Kiwis to get out and explore the great outdoors. The week is an opportunity for Kiwis to try something new, enjoy outdoor adventures with friends and whānau, and bask in Aotearoa’s ecological treasures.

Andrew Leslie, CEO of Recreation Aotearoa, says: “Aotearoa is known for the great outdoors, and as we welcome tourists back and promote our land to the international market, it’s just as important to us to encourage locals to explore their own backyard . A wealth of adventure awaits Kiwis and GO Week is a wonderful way for us to highlight that.”

This year, the week focuses on accessibility, highlighting outdoor activities for all ages and abilities – whether it’s someone with limited mobility or a family just starting to explore the great outdoors.

Andrew says: “As someone living with a disability, it’s fantastic to use GO Week as an opportunity to promote the stories, innovations and opportunities for people with different accessibility needs and experiences. We know that disabled people take part in fewer and fewer leisure activities each week than non-disabled people. Nature is for everyone, regardless of their ability, age, gender, ethnicity or where they live.”

During the campaign, GO Week will share the stories of people with different accessibility needs and the way they experience nature. Stories from Mark Inglis (ONZM), Dave MacCalman (Halfberg Foundation) and Kimberly Graham (Grab Your Wheels) will be featured.

GO Week is also supported by leading outdoor leisure and wellness organizations including New Zealand Mountain Safety Council, The Department of Conservation, Further Faster, Recreational Services, The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, Outdoorsy NZ, Back Country Cuisine and Zealandia.

There are a number of ways Kiwis can get involved and share their support for GO Week this year:
