PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) – There are so many family events happening this summer and if you weren’t out at the Heart of Illinois Fair over the weekend, the Peoria Civic Center was definitely the place to be and is expected to be again Monday night is busy.
Our morning reporter, Brett Brooks, tells us more about the Civic Center’s event lineup.
The Greta Van Fleet concert here tonight is sold out, according to Peoria Civic Center Marketing Manager Kelsy Martin, with people now camping out in anticipation of tonight’s show.
Whether you’re a comic and toy fan, have a passion for cosmetics and hair crafts, or are one of thousands of rock ‘n’ roll fans, the Peoria Civic Center is in full swing this weekend bringing people downtown.
Martin says the success of an event is contagious: “Once there’s a successful show, other promoters from across the country want to bring their shows here as well. It keeps building and taking that momentum further.”
Sunday saw the “Pressure Makes Diamonds” hair show, a first of its kind at the Civic Center.
Barber Wallace Taylor says that as he approached the venue to host the event and see how many people are drawn to River City, he said, “We’re expecting people from all over the Midwest, Indianapolis, Chicago and St. Louis. We expect 500 people.”
After the Hair Show, that list of events is long.
Just a few of the names set to make headlines at the Civic Center for the rest of the year are:
Gladys Knight on August 2nd
Comedian John Mulaney, August 17, and Bill Burr, November 5
Country stars Luke Bryan on October 15 and Keith Urban on November 4
The WWE Saturday Main Event on November 12th.
