The Wicklow Sport and Recreation Partnership has released its schedule of events for the ‘HER Wicklow, HER outdoors’ Week taking place from Monday 8th August to Sunday 14th August.
HER Outdoors Week aims to celebrate and encourage more women to get out and enjoy the benefits of being outdoors, while providing visibility into the opportunities for women and girls to engage in outdoor physical activity.
The first ever YOUR outdoor week took place in August 2021 and was a great success. With over 250 events taking place nationwide and almost 5,000 active women over seven days. Sport Ireland are looking to build on that for the 2022 season.
The week will be an opportunity for all women to get outdoors and try something new and Aisling Hubbard, coordinator of Wicklow’s Sport and Leisure Partnership, highlighted the multitude of opportunities organized and said: “There is something for everyone to do to engage in beach volleyball, canoeing, hiking and sea swimming to name a few.”
Michael Nicholson, Director of Services, Wicklow County Council and Chair of the Wicklow Outdoor Recreation Committee, highlighted “the many incredible outdoor recreation activities on offer in Wicklow” and commended HER Outdoors Week for delivering on the actions of the ambitious Wicklow Outdoor Recreation Strategy .
Cllr Tommy Annesley, Cathaoirleach, Wicklow County Council, welcomed the proliferation of activities across the county showing the wealth of natural resources Wicklow has to offer.
Mr Brian Gleeson, Chief Executive, Wicklow County Council, encouraged all women in the county to get involved in HER Outdoors Week and congratulated the sport partnership and Sport Ireland on this initiative.
Full event details are available on the Wicklow Sports and Recreation Partnership website at www.wicklowlsp.ie and on Active Wicklow on social media.
