A hospital nurse with a “heart of gold” has died climbing Mount Snowdon, one of Britain’s highest peaks.
Colleagues have paid tribute to 30-year-old Ade Ajayi, who died climbing the mountain in North Wales on Monday 6 June.
Heartbroken workers at Montagu Hospital in Mexborough, South York, said Ade could “light up a room”.
Ade was a trainee nurse on the hospital’s rehabilitation team
In a statement, the NHS Trust of Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals said: “Ade joined Team DBTH in 2019 and has been a very popular and respected member of the team within Rehab 1 at Montagu Hospital.
“As a Trainee Nursing Associate he always put his patients first and embodied everything that is good about the NHS.
“We have no doubt that he would have had a long and fruitful career with the Trust and changed so many.
“Colleagues describe Ade as someone who has a heart of gold, is fun to work with and can light up a room.
“It is said that Ade always showed boundless compassion when dealing with individuals and was a confidant and friend to so many.
“Put simply, he will be sorely missed by all who knew but will always be remembered.”
An online fundraiser has been set up to support his family and cover funeral costs, with friends promising to join Snowdon in his memory.
Richard Reasbeck, who set up the crowdfunding page, said: “Anyone who knew Ade knows he was always the life of the party, someone who told it like it was and wasn’t scared.
“We will be doing this walk in honor of an amazing man who we know wants us to walk this walk for him.
“Ade loved to be a spontaneous go-getter and always made everyone laugh when he was around (sic). Another amazing person met way too soon.
“He was a great friend, partner, son and brother and will never be forgotten.”
The exact date of the walk will be determined once the numbers are in, Richard said.
