Inaugural ‘Sock Out Most cancers Consciousness Day’ at DICK’s Sporting Items Open

ENDICOTT (WBNG) – The first annual Sock Out Cancer Awareness Day took place on Friday at DICK’s Sporting Goods Open.

This is happening after a new partnership between Security Mutual, the Security Mutual Foundation and Sock Out Cancer.

Tournament Director John Karedes said this tournament was the perfect platform to raise awareness of cancer in the Southern Tier.

Sock Out Cancer was founded in 2017 with the aim of providing financial aid to people with cancer who lack resources such as food, transportation to treatments, and rentals.

The different colors of the logo symbolize the more than 25 different types of cancer.

Bruce Boyea, chairman and CEO of Security Mutual Life, said that Sock Out Cancer had great success in just four short years.

“This community is really phenomenal for giving back,” said Boyea. “We said earlier that sometime this year we will actually have given $ 700,000 to the hospital foundations in the Binghamton area.”

Sock Out Cancer currently exists in four different states and fifteen different countries.

Boyea said they also have a new theme song called “Together We Stand” from the Philips Meyers Band.

Sock Out crab socks, bears and masks can be purchased at the tournament.
