A one-day workshop covering best practices for placing equipment, building belays, and the various ways to balance belays.

The day is spent at a crag to develop these skills and then test your rope systems.

Cost for BMC members – £50

This will be an outdoor learning day. Please ensure you have the necessary gear to potentially spend 6 hours outdoors in wet weather!

curriculum:

  • Gear Check – The tools you need to take with you when climbing

  • Guide, rock and route selection

  • Understand the climbing environment

  • equipment placement

  • security building

  • balancing techniques

  • Good rope work

Experience and fitness level:

Candidates should be able to master traditional rock climbing, although grade is irrelevant.
