Iowa star Tony Cassioppi talks climbing NCAA ladder

Former two-time Hononegah national champion Tony Cassioppi became an NCAA All American for the first time last weekend when he climbed the ladder to finish third in the NCAA heavyweight wrestling championships.

Cassioppi, who was 20-3 as a freshman and 20-2 last year as the Hawkeyes starting heavyweight, went 13-3 in that difficult season in which Iowa missed three duals due to COVID-19.

“We canceled our last two duals, so our season was shortened even further,” said Cassioppi. “But then we had a good Big Ten tournament and I wrestled pretty well.”
