It is going to be known as The Arc – Chippenham’s climbing wall is called

Chippenham’s new climbing wall got a name after a competition was held to find one.

It’s going to be called The Arc – and the winner was Karen Jones, who was inspired by the location and discovered that Arc came from climbing the Avon River.

The Arc is due to open in spring 2022 and is the Climbing Academy’s fifth climbing center and the third in the south-west of England.

Helen Cassidy, Marketing Manager at TCA, said, “With nearly 200 submissions from residents, schools and remote climbers, the evaluation process has been extremely difficult. The standard of entries was very high with so many creative, thoughtful, and smart ideas. Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter. We are very happy to be able to offer great climbing opportunities in Chippenham and to meet new climbers from the region. ”

The Arc is part of the wider Westmead Activity Center, which includes a new skate park, a café with indoor and outdoor seating, and associated landscaping. The Chippenham Borough Lands Charity is funding the entire Westmead Activity Center project with support of £ 100,000 for the Sport England climbing center and £ 200,000 for the Wiltshire Council Skatepark.

Phil Tansley, CEO of the Chippenham Borough Lands Charity, said: “We are delighted to confirm that the Climbing Academy (TCA) will operate our new climbing center, café and skate park administration. TCA is an exceptional operator of 4 wall climbing centers in Bristol and Glasgow, offering the best rock and rope climbing facilities and courses for climbers of all skill levels. We are delighted that a Chippenham resident won the competition and look forward to the center opening early next year. ”
