The Nevada County Library is proud to announce a new project. The Recreation Collection is an innovative range of outdoor and indoor recreation items that are free to check out. This collection includes board games, metal detectors, hiking poles, outdoor exercise equipment (tennis sets, pickleball, etc.), trail cams, and much more. The library will be adding more items to the collection over the coming months, and users can expect to see snowshoes and other seasonally appropriate outdoor gear in the collection as the weather changes.

Ian Boalt, Adult Services Librarian for Nevada County, said, “The Recreation Collection is another way for our community to see how libraries are changing and adapting to their needs. Come to the library for books, gear for your next outdoor adventure, board games to spend time with friends, art classes, tech help, or just a nice place to relax and get some work done. Nevada County Library works hard to meet the needs of every community member.”

The Nevada County Library has slowly expanded its non-book collection in recent years. Mobile hotspots allow customers free internet access at home and can be checked out in all branches. The Technology Lending Library allows teachers and educators to explore innovative STEAM projects for classrooms and students. The Recreation Collection remains committed to providing innovative resources to Nevada County. This project is just the beginning of an expansion toward providing customers with everyday items that encourage outdoor activities, personal hobbies, and socializing with friends and family.
