Members of Central Coast badly injured in tenting accident: Lots of contribute to GoFundMe marketing campaign

Hundreds of people are helping a family on the Central Coast hit by tragedy over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Lompoc High School teacher Gretchen Flaherty, her father, husband and 16-year-old son suffered severe burns during a camping trip. An outdoor heater apparently caught fire, spewing out flaming fuel.

The accident happened on Thanksgiving Day near the community of Ridgecrest in the Mojave Desert. They were taken to hospitals with burn centers in Bakersfield and San Bernardino. All four are expected to survive, but they may require a series of surgeries.

A family friend set up a GoFundMe page to help the family. More than 330 people have donated more than $40,000 toward the $50,000 goal.
