Middlesex County Awards $550,000 Recreational Grant for Plainsboro Community Park Improvements
Funds will be used to develop a new ADA-compliant playground
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – Middlesex County will award $550,000 grant to Plainsboro Township for improvements to Green Acres Recreational Area, known as Community Park. Improvements include playground equipment, safety pads poured on site, concrete walkways and pavilion plaza, new pavilion, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) parking, trees and landscaping.
“Open space investment throughout Middlesex County remains a top priority for every member of the Board of County Commissioners,” he said Board of County Commissioners Director Ronald G. Rios. “Not only will this grant enable much-needed improvements to expand access to outdoor recreation for families in the county, but also the construction of new playgrounds for children ages 2-5 and 5-12, safety toppings and pavilions with space , seating walls and benches that will attract more diverse families to our district. Our goal is to revitalize our parks and ensure they meet the needs of the entire community.”
The $550,000 grant agreement between Middlesex County and the community of Plainsboro under the Open Space, Recreation and Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund states that the funds will be used to build an ADA-compliant playground and other park improvements.
“We are proud of our commitment to preserving the open spaces, our parks and playgrounds,” he said Mayor Peter A. Cantu, Plainsboro Township. “We applaud Middlesex County for their continued support of our priorities by funding these community park playground improvements. Without their support, this project would not have come about.”
“Parks and playgrounds are not only vital to the health and well-being of our children, they improve the quality of life in our community,” he said District Commissioner Charles E. Tomaro. “Grants like this are vital both now and in the future as they support the physical, mental and social health of Middlesex County’s youth. These improvements along with the installation of inclusive play equipment will make Plainsboro Community Park a modern and exciting recreational destination.”
The project is expected to be completed within three years. Funding will be $500,000 for FY2022 and $50,000 for FY2023.
