Naperville offers so many ways to enjoy the great outdoors, from the 140+ parks, to the 110+ hiking trails covering nearly 5,000 miles, to other amenities like Centennial Beach, the Riverwalk, athletic fields, and several dozen pools.
In its 35th anniversary year, NCTV17 highlights a different gem in our community each month, and in July we bask in the natural beauty of our city and all it has to offer. Whether it’s hiking, running, biking, swimming, or gaming, outdoor recreation is an essential part of everyday life for everyone living or just visiting Naperville.
Throughout the year, families enjoy special events such as concerts in the park, the Naperville Kite Festival, parades and celebrations, the Turkey Trot and other 5K races, all outdoors. As citizens enjoy the outdoors, they can also enjoy art on Naperville’s Century Walk. Naperville loves the great outdoors so much it even has a 35-acre open-air museum, Naper Settlement.
Spending time in parks and other green spaces reduces stress and improves overall physical and mental well-being. Communities that prioritize green spaces are often considered safer, develop stronger social bonds, and have residents who are generally healthier and happier.
With more than 6,000 acres of parkland and amenities, the possibilities are endless, and that’s why Naperville’s parks and outdoor recreation areas are a gem that really shines for this community.
