South Mississauga residents will soon be able to visit a local park to get in better shape.

A new outdoor adult fitness area at Fred Halliday Memorial Park, northwest of Dixie Rd. and the QEW, will open to the public soon, says Mississauga City Councilor Stephen Dasko, Ward 1.

The City Council posted an update on the project on their Instagram page this week.

“Opening soon. Exciting to see my adult fitness facility project come to life at Fred Halliday Memorial Park,” Dasko wrote. “I’ve enjoyed working with the Applewood Acres Homeowners Association.”

While an official opening date has not yet been set, city officials say improvements to the park will be completed this summer.

The outdoor fitness area includes:

  • stationary fitness equipment
  • Signage of teaching exercises
  • safety covering
  • accessible connections to existing park trails

“These improvements will improve visitor experiences at the park and provide outdoor recreation and fitness opportunities to support active lifestyles,” city parks and recreation workers said in an online description of the park improvement project.

They add that outdoor fitness is a supported use under the City’s Parks and Forestry Future Directions Masterplan, last updated in 2019.

The outdoor fitness area, which was completed with federal funding, will be open all year round. It is one of more than 30 similar facilities available to the public in parks across the city.
