This spring, the Arcata Recreation Division is offering free, physically distant outdoor groups for new parents through the Arcata Play Center.

The Wednesday New Parents Group for Spanish speakers meets on Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary. New parents, carers and babies can enjoy the baby blanket time and take guided nature walks through the swamp with babies in arms, straps or strollers. This group will meet from April 7th to June 30th.

The Tuesday New Parents Group meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month from 12 noon to 1.30 p.m. in the Mal’el Dunes and on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month in the Arcata Community Forest. New parents, carers and babies can enjoy the baby blanket and guided nature walks through the dunes and the

Forest with babies in arms or straps, and this group will meet from April 6th to June 29th.

The Thursday New Parents Group meets every Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the McKay Community Forest in Eureka. New parents, caregivers, and babies can take nature walks through the woods with babies in arms or carriers. This group will meet from April 1st to June 24th.

The Friday New Parents Group meets every Friday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary. This offer is aimed at new parents who speak English or Spanish. New parents, carers and babies can enjoy the baby blanket time and take guided nature walks through the swamp with babies in arms, straps or strollers. This group will meet from April 2nd to June 25th.

Precautions are being taken to ensure compliance with state and regional COVID-19 health and safety regulations. Face-covering, physical distancing, and other health and safety protocols are required for all staff and participants. Additional time is required for wellness screenings. Families who have traveled, had visitors from outside the area, or may have been exposed to COVID-19 must wait 14 days before attending.

Thanks to funding from First 5 Humboldt, participation is free of charge. Registration is limited to five families per session, with infants up to one year present per session. Pre-registration is required at cityofarcata.org/rec or
