OUTDOOR NEWS: Be taught to Hunt opens upland fowl registration | Sports activities

MONKS – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) offers a virtual program to teach those with little or no upland bird hunting experience skills necessary to hunt, dress and cook upland birds.

The workshop will take place on October 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. via Zoom. Experienced trainers teach the basic skills and strategies needed to hunt pheasants. The workshop is aimed at participants aged 16 and over. No fee is charged for participation.

“Participants will learn the skills and knowledge it takes to hunt upland birds yourself, such as the right equipment, where to hunt, safe shooting practices, and how to dress, butcher and cook them in the field to source their own protein. said Jamie Cook, program coordinator at the Iowa DNR.

The program is provided through a partnership with the Iowa DNR and Pheasants Forever. It is part of a national effort to recruit, retain and reactivate hunters due to the general decline in hunting and outdoor recreation.
