Outside Journey Day introduced for native college kids

Deschutes National Forest presents Outdoor Adventure Day for local elementary school children.

Event partners include Discover Your Forest, High Desert Museum, Children’s Forest of Central Oregon, Sunriver Nature Center, Oregon State Parks and Recreation, and Project Wildfire.

The event takes place on Wednesday, June 7, 2022.

Approximately 750 K-5 graders from Rosland, La Pine and Gilchrist Elementary converge on the baseball fields at La Pine High School for a fun and educational day of adventure.

Archaeologists, wildlife biologists, firefighters, recreation specialists and others will oversee 30 stations that children can visit and learn about fish, plants, cultural resources, animals, outdoor recreation and safety, art, water, recycling and fire.

“After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, we’re bringing this event back, stronger and better than ever!” event manager Christina the squirrel.

“It’s an opportunity to introduce children to important conservation ideas and engage them in fun, hands-on activities that they can do or experience in their backyards or in the national forest.”

The Outdoor Adventure Day takes place from 9:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m

Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl will be there to greet the children upon their arrival.

Children are encouraged to be prepared for the weather with appropriate clothing and to bring water.

Participants meet at the La Pine High School baseball fields at 51633 Coach Rd. La Pine, OR.
