“Americans continue to feel the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, whether it’s remote work, travel restrictions or an overwhelming need for fresh air,” said Julianne Ohlander, data analyst at Ownerly. “As many consider relocating to potentially ‘greener’ pastures, our analysis found that smaller cities and those in the West and Northeast are best suited for remote workers with active lifestyles.”

Oregon is the best state overall, with four cities making the top 25.

The central theses:

The story goes on

  • The West and Northeast hold the greatest potential for remote workers who love the great outdoors. Cities in western states occupied eight of the top 10 spots. In the top 25 list were 11 cities in the West and eight in the Northeast. Three cities were from the Midwest and three from the South.

  • Oregon is the top state for telecommuters looking for an active lifestyle. Four Oregon cities made our top 25 ranking, while Massachusetts cities took three spots. California, Colorado and Washington also ranked high, each appearing twice in the top 10 list.

  • The West Coast is making a strong comeback following the results Zoom Towns USA: America’s Best Cities for Telecommuters. High cost of living has excluded many West Coast cities from the top 25 best Zoom cities overall. However, because this ranking prioritizes factors related to a healthy outdoor lifestyle, the West Coast has been able to rebound and dominate the top 25.
