Despite the incredibly hot summer, Ponca City Parks and Recreation have worked tirelessly to keep the community beautiful. The employees of the Parks and Rec department deserve the highest thanks and appreciation.

During the crisis of the COVID pandemic, many people turned to outdoor activities such as hiking trails and parks as the lockdown tightened. Thanks to these workers, the community could enjoy these places. The LA Cann Estate is one of the more well-known locations that fall within the purview of Parks and Rec. Within its 10 acres of land, its path among flowerbeds, a wisteria arbor and a lily pond is why the garden is known for its appeal. It’s also a popular venue for weddings, receptions, and bridal or baby showers.

Agencies like these help create thriving communities and play a vital role in improving our community’s environment. From the flowerbeds that line Grand Ave to the parks and walking trails, the Parks and Rec Department’s efforts to beautify the city have not been in vain. In addition, they have recreational programs for citizens throughout the year. Some of their ventures include kayak rentals at Lake Ponca, annual youth fishing clinic, cornhole tournaments, etc.

Overall, the Parks and Recreation Department owes much to the beauty of Ponca City. Staff work year-round to improve the city, both in terms of its beautiful views and opportunities for outdoor activities and housing for those in need.
