For ski lovers

BalQaragai Recreation Area in Akkayn Village offers people steep slopes perfect for skiing, snowboarding, sledding and snow tubing. You can also ride a snowmobile, sled with horses and huskies, or night ski on a 20-meter high slope.

For anglers

The Stolichnie Raki (Crayfish of the City) recreation center is just a 30-minute drive from the capital. If you want to fish well, you need to take fishing gear with you and come to the river bank early in the morning in a good mood.

For hikers

Lake Imantau is a perfect place for those who like to climb peaks but don’t want to travel to Almaty for that. Located 400 kilometers from the capital, it impresses visitors with its picturesque views all year round.

Pine and birch trees, mountains and rocks surround the frozen lake. The maximum height of the rocks is 660 meters above sea level.

Remember to bring warm clothes and comfortable shoes to enjoy the scenic spots that can only be reached on foot – Kotelok Hill, Uglovay Hill, Rakelsky Cave, Buyan Gorge and Kazachiy Island.

Another fascinating place is Lake Zerenda, surrounded by rock massifs and coniferous forests. This place is also popular in winter, but experts recommend climbing the rocks only with special equipment and prior preparation.

Amateurs can enjoy sightseeing tours, skiing, snow tubing and walks through the winter forest. The program of some tours includes a visit to the only Butterfly Museum in Kazakhstan.

The nearest recreation areas, Zerenda Park and Aurora Garden, offer accommodation, meals and a sauna, while the Zeren Recreation Center will delight you with its spa treatments.
