A man climbed onto a crane in downtown Seattle on Friday afternoon. Seattle police brought him to safety after nearly an hour of negotiations. AM 770 KTTH’s Jason Rantz described the scene live on his Twitter feed @JasonRantz.

The man throws objects from the crane. He’s a little over halfway up. pic.twitter.com/qubnQmcfsm

By my count there are about 20 officers on site. Unfortunately, that means they’re understaffed elsewhere.

He’s been up there for over an hour. Negotiators are on site.

After a brief discussion, the officers move slightly out of sight, perhaps to dispel some of the man’s excitement? pic.twitter.com/nHHXCat0ep

He is standing now. More screaming. pic.twitter.com/VVYZWSczSV

He becomes ruthless. He climbs down a level, but deliberately shakes the ladder. pic.twitter.com/knz7ix7a5h

three rise. Can’t tell who’s officer or firefighter. The man got restless and they stopped. pic.twitter.com/vWfEfxIczt

This is obviously dangerous work. They are methodical in their ascent. pic.twitter.com/SOm01JEibR

I think there are three cops on the roof of the construction site talking to him. He screams to leave him alone. pic.twitter.com/Tf99kMhPFW

Good news: looks like he’s coming down. pic.twitter.com/fV8DFI3bvV

He stopped. It looks like he’s negotiating for a cigarette and now he’s going upstairs again. pic.twitter.com/PfAHVZsuwW

He asks people to wave at him. And he comes down again. But then it stops and throws things back. pic.twitter.com/TWz3TpZhjO

Witness tells me the man was originally naked so the police got him clothes. The people here are cheering him on to come down. pic.twitter.com/pFlsCD4EIW

The negotiator urged the crowd not to engage or he will turn his attention to them instead of the cops.

He took off his shirt. He’s still screaming to leave him alone, but he got to the third floor, which is a huge step forward. pic.twitter.com/J7W30clM7S

Amazing and patient work by officers, especially those who volunteered to advance. It was dangerous, but they did it anyway.

The man was just put in the ambulance. pic.twitter.com/dyWPnB6pjW
