COMPANY NEWS: A new online marketplace targeting Australia’s burgeoning outdoor, caravan and camping market was launched today.

At the start, the marketplace offers more than 2000 products from 15 suppliers.

The new website was designed and built by lifestyle industry leader Leisure-Tec Australia. CEO Paul Widdis said it would become an invaluable resource for thousands of people who regularly enjoy the nation’s natural wonders.

“We set up the marketplace in partnership with popular social media-based group Everything Caravan & Camping, which started back in 2014,” he said. “The group has more than 700,000 members across a range of platforms and has become the go-to destination for those seeking information, tips and recommendations.”

Structure of the platform

When it came to selecting an underlying technology platform for the new market, Widdis said his company was looking for a combination of flexibility, scalability and local support.

“We spoke to a number of existing Marketplacer users and quickly found that the platform had all the features and capabilities we needed,” he said. “From the signing of the contract to the launch of the website, our project was completed in just six months.”

Marketplacer’s platform gives individual vendors the ability to upload details of their product offerings to the site and provide real-time views of stock availability. Customers can quickly find the products they need and place orders for delivery.

Widdis said his company’s future plans include expanding the marketplace to include access to service providers and recommendations for everything from device maintenance to insurance.

“At present, finding suitable maintenance facilities and support for caravans and associated equipment can be a challenge,” he said. “Through the website, users can access everything they need and ensure their devices are always operating at peak performance.”

With more Australians choosing to holiday domestically due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Widdis said growth prospects for the outdoor, caravan and camping sectors remain very bright.

He said the new marketplace will also feature an Australian-made section to highlight locally made devices.

“This will help customers who want to support local businesses but may not know there are some,” he said. “It’s about helping people find and buy the products they need to enhance their outdoor experiences.

“We plan to rapidly increase both the number of items offered through the marketplace and the number of vendors offering them throughout 2022 and beyond.”

According to Widdis, Leisure-Tec Australia’s investment in the new site is a key part of the company’s growth plans.
