Richmond Parks and Recreation broadcasts fall programming schedule |

The Richmond Parks and Recreation Department has announced its program schedule for this fall.

The Parks Department is kicking off its fall schedule with a Free Movies in the Park series.

In partnership with the Madison County Public Library, the Free Movies in the Park will be screened after dark at Irvine McDowell Park at 345 Lancaster Avenue in Richmond. The event takes place on Friday afternoon.

DreamWorks’ “Bad Guys” will be screened on Friday, September 23rd. The onsite food trucks will be Poppin’ J’s and Hezekiah’s Ice.

The new Disney/Pixar film “Lightyear” opens on Friday, September 30th. Onsite food trucks include Bluegrass Cheesesteak Express, Fluffy Bellies BBQ, and Cotton & Cone. This film in the park is shown in conjunction with the Astronomical Night of Learning from 6:00 p.m. The event features community vendors and multiple space-themed activities for kids,

Richmond Parks and Recreation will continue to host Tasty Tuesdays, a live music and food truck series, throughout the month of September.

On September 6th there will be a live music performance by Nic Cassetta. Local food trucks include Comete Alguito, Colonel Station, Aaron’s Pantry, Fluffy Bellies BBQ, and J&T’s Italian Ice.

On September 13th there will be a live music performance by Vintage Voodoo. Local food trucks are Colonel Station, Piggin’ Out, Chuck Wagon and Hezekiah’s Ice.

On September 20th there will be a live music performance by Luke Trimble. Local food trucks include Catfish Bucket, Bert’s Speak Cheezy, Poppin’ J’s, Fluffy Bellies BBQ, and Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee.

The last Tasty Tuesday of the season takes place on September 27th. There will be a live music performance by Five Below Band, and on-site food trucks will be Comete Alguito, Chuck Wagon, Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee, Piggin’ Out, and Poppy’s Ice Cream Truck.

In addition to the rotating food trucks, Dreaming Creek Brewery and Chenault Vineyards will be on site on all of these dates, according to the parks department.

The Richmond Outdoor Committee of Kentucky (or ROCK) also has several events planned for this month.

A Kayak Fun Float will be held at the Lake Reba Kayak Launch on September 10th in partnership with Excel Health starting at 10am. Kayak rentals are available on site. Then, on September 17th, a Family Nature Day will be held at Maywoods Environmental and Educational Laboratory, located at 447 Maywoods Road in Crabb Orchard, in conjunction with EKU’s Natural Areas Division from 10am to 3pm. This event includes nature-themed crafts and educational workshops for outdoor recreation. Registration for the Richmond Teen Center Fall 2022 programs is now open.

This year’s programs, beginning the week of September 6, include Mentoring Tuesday nights 3-6pm, Free Play Thursday nights 3-6pm, Sports Outreach/Mentoring Sunday nights 5-7pm, and other monthly events.

You can register your middle or high school student online at www.richmond.ky.us/parks. Please note that transportation to and from these programs is required. Caudill Middle School and Madison Central High School will drop off your child with a signed permit slip. Richmond Parks and Recreation’s annual Halloween Hoedown will be held in downtown Richmond on Thursday, October 27 from 6pm to 8pm. Registration for this event is now open for community and snack vendors. You can register online at www.richmond.ky.us/parks to set up a booth.
