RTE’s Ryan Tubridy says climbing Carrauntoohil gave him greatest sleep of his life

RTE star Ryan Tubridy has revealed that climbing Carrauntoohil and driving directly back to Dublin gave him the best sleep of his life.

The host of the Late Late Show had a two week break visiting Co Galway, West Cork, and climbing Ireland’s highest mountain.

Telling the audience about the rise in Co Kerry on Monday morning on his RTE Radio One show, he said, “It was an extraordinary experience and the reaction I got from most of them was, ‘What, you did it?

“Then I came back down and drove to Dublin in some adrenaline-fueled madness.

“I got home around 8:45 pm, had a cup of tea and cookies, and then I had the best night’s sleep since I was born.

“It slept so well that I almost went back up the mountain and came back down only to sleep again, it was so good.”

Tubridy added that after a hectic few months of work, he really needed a break.

He said, “I’m rested, I really needed a break and there are a lot of people listening today who feel the same way. If you are able to take a little time out, just take it.”

“I missed our little trips on the Wild Atlantic Way so much that I made my own bespoke version of them.

“I’ve been driving up and down the west coast of Ireland, some of the places I have revisited, and I met some people I met during the show. I saw West Cork and the Connemara coast.”

“A wonderful, intense, unique experience. If i can do it

“It was a cold, wet and foggy climb up Carrauntoohil, but we got there thanks to the nicest people I could have met, Madi and her father Maurice (and fruit and chocolate).

“Journey of a lifetime. Once it should be enough!”
