There’s a new look at Sonic Frontiers gameplay. Sega gave IGN a first look at the game. This spanned around seven minutes of Sonic the Hedgehog exploring the new open-world setting. [Thanks, IGN!]
The video officially starts at the 42 second mark. It shows Sonic approaching a tower. Various mechanisms such as boost rings, boost pads, walls to cling to or walk along, and grind rails appear on it. All of this should help him reach the top. After reaching the top, he goes back down to solid ground. Once there, he walks around the countryside. People can see some roads and rails that serve as bridges or help him reach different rooms. He also collects things like hearts and rings on his travels.
At the four-minute mark, Sonic encounters a mystery. He has to rotate some statues to open a door to another area. After that, another puzzle appears. This involves running in circles around flames to reveal another secret.

This is the longest look at Sonic Frontiers gameplay yet. The first reveal was shown during The Game Awards 2021. That offered just a glimpse of what Sonic will look like in the game and hinted at the nature of the open world. A teaser trailer also appeared ahead of the IGN reveal on June 1, 2022.
While many details are still pending, we do know quite a bit about the title. Sega has already revealed the game’s voice acting and subtitle languages.
Sonic Frontiers will be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC during the 2022 holiday season.
