Sporting Items Retailer Hit With Proposed Breach Class Motion

According to a proposed class action lawsuit filed in California federal court, a sporting goods retailer violated the Maryland Personal Information Protection Act and acted negligently by failing to protect consumer information from an October violation.

Plaintiff Jesse Pfeffer suffered credit card fraud as a direct result of the breach at Wilderness Sports Warehouse LLC, according to a complaint filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Central District of California.

The company, based in San Luis Obispo, Calif., Was hit by a data breach in October 2021 that affected more than 1.8 million consumers, the complaint said. The company operates …
