Strengthening Duluth’s outside recreation and tourism business


Strengthening Minnesota’s outdoor recreation economy is the current goal of Minnesota’s DNR, DEED, Explore MN and other partners.

MNDNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen, DEED Commissioner Steve Grove and Explore Minnesota Director Lauren Bennett McGinty traveled to Loll Designs and met with Mayor Emily Larson.

They discussed how sustainable and eco-friendly products are powering Minnesota’s booming tourism and outdoor economy.

Outdoor recreation in Minnesota generates $8.4 billion in GDP, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Minnesota’s outdoor recreation also supports over 89,000 jobs, fueling even more collaborative efforts.

“We want to learn more and invest more in how our communities can grow from this in a sustainable way, but also how we can get people to live like locals and experience all the things that everyone loves about Minnesota,” McGinty said .

The leaders of MNDNR, DEED and Explore Minnesota spoke about how important local manufacturers and retailers are to Duluth.

Especially when outdoor recreation culture is the cornerstone of Duluth’s thriving economy.
