Texas Out of doors Household program providing free tenting at Garner State Park for Seguin ISD households

SEGUIN, Texas – Families from the Seguin Independent School District participating in the Texas Outdoor Family program can camp for free at Garner State Park this month.

Pete Silvius, Seguin ISD Director of Whole Child Initiatives, said families participating in the program will have the opportunity to camp at popular Hill Country Park for free May 20-22.

Campground costs, access to rental camping gear like tents and cots, and a variety of fun camping activities will be covered, according to a press release.

“While families camp on their own premises, they have access to toilets, hot showers, drinking water and electricity at each site. This is a great opportunity for families to learn the basics of camping and try out tent camping without having to buy the most basic camping gear,” said Silvius.

Lanterns, stoves and fuel, a coffee press, pots, frying pan and utensils are loaned in addition to tents from the Texas Outdoor Family program. Tents sleep six people each with two cots and four foam pads.

The Texas Outdoor Family program and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department have partnered to bring this offering to Seguin ISD families.

“At Seguin ISD, we have expanded outdoor recreation opportunities for our students, families, staff and the community at large. We look forward to forging new relationships while participating in healthy outdoor recreation with our Seguin ISD family, friends and neighbors,” said Silvius.

Places are limited and all families wishing to attend must register.

Garner State Park is located at 234 RR 1050 in Concan.
