The inaugural Awakenings Summer Festival is upon us, presenting that rarely explored but seemingly complementary middle ground between free-spirited camping festivals and unctuous techno events. Awakenings has long been known for its pioneering line-ups and deep, if not a little wacky, live productions, but a three-day camping festival is something the company has been aiming for for years, according to founder Rocco Veenboer.
“As a festival organisation, we are always on the move and keep asking ourselves how things can get better or more beautiful. The Awakenings Festival started out as a one day festival and expanded to two days in 2014. However, we felt there was much more to it.” He continues: “The fact that we can bring this new chapter of Awakenings to Hilvarenbeek is a dream come true.”
For the weekend of July 29-31, Awakenings Summer Festival will set up camp in the south of the Netherlands, bringing a who’s who of fervent techno talent to the lakeside fiesta. From contemporary headliners like Adam Beyer, ANNA and Charlotte De Witte to icons of the game like Chris Liebing, Jeff Mills, Ricardo Villalobos and the eponymous Richie Hawtin, Awakenings events are a sure shot for juicy lineups. Those looking to explore between the lines can find bright talent like FJAAK (live), I Hate Models, Sama’ Abdulhadi, Loco Dice, Reinier Zonneveld and America’s very own Maceo Plex, or get lost at the enchanting and quirky venue.
