SANTA FE, NM – The outdoor business startup pitch event will be held on October 7 at the Outdoor Economics Conference in Taos. Outdoor startups can apply until September 11th.

That very first adventure pitchorganized by CNM Ingenuity, is scheduled for Friday, October 7 at the Outdoor Economics Conference 2022, the Outdoor Recreation Division (ORD) announced today.

In partnership with CNM Ingenuity’s Startups and Small Business team, the ORD invites startups with high growth potential and a core offering that touches on outdoor recreation, the environment, and/or health and wellness use to this premier startup pitch event for outdoor businesses in New Mexico.

Accepted startups and investor judges will gather in Taos for the Outdoor Economics Conference and join in the fun with dinner and networking on October 6th. On October 7th at 9:15 a.m., startups will present themselves to the jury in five-minute rounds, with the winner being announced immediately after the event. First place wins a cash prize of $10,000, followed by second place ($3,000) and third place ($2,000).

Outdoor startups that want to participate in the Adventure Pitch are encouraged to apply by September 11th. Startups with an established legal entity, a strong founding team and some degree of product or customer loyalty are all eligible. The ideal candidate is a company that has an established or near-launch product, customer loyalty that validates an exciting market opportunity, and a vision for massive growth.

All approved companies present their company in a round before a public audience during this pitch event. CNM Ingenuity invites judges from inside and outside of New Mexico who are actively seeking investment in startup companies, particularly those in the outdoor recreation space. This includes angel investors, venture capital funds and even banking partners.

“These outdoor startups all have a unique business model that is not only good for our economy but also for the environment. Outdoor recreation has an immense impact on our state’s economy—it contributes nearly $2 billion to New Mexico’s GDP annually and employs over 25,000 people—which is why Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham selected it as one of our nine target industries for growth said Secretary of Economic Development Alicia J. Keyes. “We are excited to invite companies that support the outdoor recreation economy in New Mexico to participate in Adventure Pitch 2022.”

“The outdoor economy contributes $1.9 billion to the state’s GDP each year and employs over 25,000 people,” said ORD Director Axie Navas. “The startups that will pitch their ideas at Adventure Pitch represent the present and future of this powerhouse industry, and we look forward to seeing their continued growth in New Mexico. At the October event, they will learn valuable skills on how to pitch their idea publicly and build important investor relationships.”

“Adventure Pitch builds on the momentum of the Outdoor Economics Conference, as well as our own pitch events like Ski Lift Pitch, to help more New Mexico startups connect with more investors in and out of state,” TJ Cook, fund manager of the Ingenuity Venture Fund, said.

The Adventure Pitch 2022 for outdoor companies is the successor to the Outdoor Pitchfest organized by ORD at the Outdoor Economics Conference 2021 in Farmington. This year, ORD invited outdoor companies whose key ideas related to the nature-based outdoor recreation industry. Six finalists presented their ideas to a jury from business development, the outdoor industry and the investment sector. (Read more about the participants.) Susan from Free-to-Roam eBiking and Frankie from Bosque Mobile Bike Repair won the Judges’ and Peoples’ Choice Awards.

The Adventure Pitch is part of the annual Outdoor Economics Conference, October 5-7. Registration for the Conference and Adventure Pitch is now open.
