U.S. Division of Commerce Invests $three.7 Million in American Rescue Plan Funds to Increase Tourism and Out of doors Recreation Sector in Nevada


The US Department of Commerce is investing $3.7 million in US bailout funds to boost Nevada’s tourism and outdoor recreation sectors

WASHINGTON — Today Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced that the Department’s Economic Development Agency (EDA) is awarding a $3.7 million grant to the Nevada Department of Tourism, Carson City, Nevada, to help the state’s tourism sector recover to support. This grant is funded by the American Rescue Plan.

This grant will support the construction of outdoor recreation facilities in Boulder City and Carson City to promote adventure tourism in the state and strengthen the success of related businesses. The EDA investment is matched with $928,000 in state and local funds.

“President Biden recognizes the vital contribution that the travel and tourism industry makes to the American economy,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “This EDA investment in Nevada will help the region’s critical tourism and outdoor recreation sector not only recover from the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, but also build stronger for the future.”

“The Economic Development Administration is dedicated to working with communities to support their locally driven strategies to recover and rebuild from the pandemic,” said Alejandra Y. Castillo, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development. “This project will enhance outdoor recreational opportunities in Nevada and support the long-term viability of an important source of tourism-based economic development in the state.”

“I’ve always been an advocate for Nevada’s thriving outdoor recreation economy, which brings hundreds of thousands of tourists to the state each year,” said Senator Catherine Cortez Masto. “I have legislated to direct economic development funds for tourism projects, and I am excited to bring these worthwhile investments to Nevada.”

“Tourism is the backbone of our economy here in Nevada,” said Senator Jacky Rosen. “Thanks to the US bailout plan I helped enact, I’m proud to announce that our state will receive millions of dollars in grants to boost tourism and recreation, create new opportunities for local businesses, and foster sustainable economic growth support. ”

This project is funded under EDA’s $240 million competitive American Rescue Plan Travel, Tourism, and Outdoor Recreation Program. The EDA awarded $510 million to all 50 states and territories in 2021. The two programs aim to accelerate the recovery of communities that rely on the travel, tourism and outdoor recreation sectors. Effective May 26, 2022, the EDA has officially closed all of its American Rescue Plan programs to applications. The $3 billion in program funding will be awarded on an ongoing basis through September 30, 2022.
