SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) – Mixed rainfall will affect Central New York overnight, but will it last until Tuesday?
ONE Winter weather advice is in effect for Onondaga, Seneca, Southern Cayuga, Cortland, Tompkins County through 1:00 a.m. Tuesday.
ONE Winter weather advice is valid until 4:00 am Tuesday morning for Counties Jefferson, Lewis, and Oswego.
ONE Winter weather advice is in effect for Oneida, Madison, Chenango, and Otsego counties until 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
OVER NIGHT:
Any icy mix should end up as a little rain / drizzle late at night for most as readings rise above freezing for most. Look for slippery spots on untreated surfaces, especially on parking lots, sidewalks, raised surfaces, and in the more hilly terrain south and east of Syracuse. Ice build-up will be easy with nothing more than a coating of up to an inch of snow and glazing of up to a tenth of an inch of ice expected. Remember, however, that it doesn’t take a lot of ice to make things slippery on untreated surfaces. So be careful if you are out tonight.
TUESDAY – TUESDAY NIGHT:
The system from Monday / Monday runs quietly through Tuesday with a large part of Tuesday, but towards and especially after sunset, another weakening system with a warm front can introduce a little more snow, possibly ending up as a little rain / drizzle in the late Tuesday night.
The warm front is either breaking apart over us or just north of us and as a result, any snow should go away Tuesday night through Tuesday night / Wednesday morning.
Tuesday highs will be in the top 30s and Tuesday night lows should be close to 30.
WEDNESDAY:
Midweek looks pretty calm aside from a touch of spotty drizzle / thunderstorm and maybe freezing drizzle north and east of Syracuse to start the day. The week highs are also expected to be a little milder, with highs around 40 on Wednesday afternoons with mostly cloudy skies.
THE LAST TWO DAYS OF 2021:
Aside from a brief shower of rain on Thursday, which can start as a small freezing rain north and east of Syracuse, the weather should be fairly calm around 2021, with Friday being the best day of the week.
This is good news for anyone with plans for New Years Eve! Stay tuned for updates.
